A Garden Profile

A Sculpture Garden

This beautiful home borders on a lake and has an unrestricted view of a golf course and the community clubhouse in the distance.

It was quite easy and enjoyable to create a landscape design with these clients as we had worked with them on seven previous projects on their homes in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina. They were aware of what they wanted to accomplish in the creation of their new gardens and we were comfortable in our knowledge of how to reach their goals and satisfy their objectives.

Each new home was a expression of their evolving interests and tastes and they truly enjoyed the process of creating new gardens. The only constant in each project was to ensure that the gardens fit the architecture and that both landscape and building architecture fit into the site and the community.  Another paramount need was to use the same standard of excellence in every element of the design.

For this home, it was determined that sculptural elements were to be an important part of the overall designs. The landscaping sculptures were not to dominate the various spaces as is often the case in public gardens, but to provide accent pieces throughout. This concept then urged us to create a landscape that would stand up on it’s own without a garden statue or sculpture but still provide a setting whenever a piece was selected by the clients.

This design concept allows the client to keep the garden fresh by adding to or altering the gardens through the years. Because the various settings for any landscaping sculpture is not specific to that element, changes can be made as desired.  In addition, the community that this residence was a part of did not allow artistic garden objects to be visible from offsite public areas.

This required the garden destinations that might receive these objects be shielded and not seen from outside the property. This requirement actually led us to finding ever more creative solutions for our landscaping sculpture niches.

GARDEN IN THE ROUND

Some of the garden statues resided in small confined spaces while others were placed in a large garden destination enclosed by a lushly planted earthen-berm.  This particular area was referred to as  the “Garden In The Round” as it could and would be used to host musical venues as well as display topiaries ad statuary.  The circular border would keep the artistic garden elements out of public view.

LAKESIDE EDGE  WALK

This is an excellent private home touring garden as small groups of visitors can move from one destination to another and find elements and scenes along the way to keep their interests fresh.

The attached photographs should speak for the garden details and the video tour following this article will provide additional detail for those who may want it.
